Mellidara, South Sikkim, 27 August 2025:
The Women Council of the Citizen Action Party – Sikkim (CAP-S) convened a state level coordination meeting today at Mellidara, South Sikkim, under the chairmanship of Party President Shri Ganesh Kumar Rai.
The meeting witnessed the presence of senior women leaders including Smt. Sumati Chettri (Vice President & In-charge, Women Council), Smt. Sanju Rai (Vice President), Smt. Tara Gurung (Vice President), Smt. Bina Sharma (President, Women Council), Smt. Dilmati Limboo (Vice President, Women Council), Smt. Songmit Lepcha (Vice President, Women Council), Ms. Edu Tsh Lepcha (Vice President, Youth Council) along with several other prominent women leaders from across the state.
During the deliberations, the leaders reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to the party’s vision and pledged to strengthen the role of women in politics and society. The Council resolved to amplify the voices of women across Sikkim and act as a collective force to safeguard their dignity, rights, and aspirations.
A key concern raised in the meeting was the victimisation of women employees, particularly mothers, who have been unjustly transferred to far-flung regions, including outside the state to places like New Delhi, Kolkata, and Guwahati, purely due to the politics of vindictiveness. The Women Council strongly condemned these acts of harassment and assured affected women of their full support.
The meeting also expressed deep concern over the alarming rise in crimes against the girl child in Sikkim. The leaders termed the trend as “worrisome and highly regrettable” and demanded urgent intervention from the concerned commissions and state authorities responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of children.
In her address, Women Council President Smt. Bina Sharma emphasised that the Women Council would not only stand as a pillar of support for every woman in distress but also take forward the message of reforms (Sudhar) to every household, spreading awareness about the party’s policies and programs aimed at empowerment, justice, and equality.
Concluding the meeting, Party President Shri Ganesh Kumar Rai lauded the women leaders for their courage and dedication. He reiterated that the Citizen Action Party – Sikkim remains steadfast in its mission to build an inclusive and just society where women are equal partners in governance and development.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Smt. Kamala Rai, President Women Coucnil Melli ACEC.
