Calf Rally-cum-Awareness : Celebrating Veterinarians of Mangan District

Mangan, April 29 (IPR) : Commemorating World Veterinary Day, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services(AH&VS), Mangan organised a District Level Calf Rally at Community Centre, Pentok today. The programme was sponsored by Sikkim Livestock Development Board (SLDB).

With the theme ” Veterinarians as essential health workers”, a rally of about 30 calves from the district , under 3-8 months of age was held, providing a platform for the farmers to showcase their calves. Alongside the rally, awareness programmes on prevention and management of various livestock diseases such as Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), Brucellosis, Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR), Classical Swine Fever (CSF) was also administered by Ms Hissay Doma Lepcha- AD (AH&VS), Dr. Rinchen L. Bhutia, Dr. Diki.O.Lepcha.

The Chief Guest, Mr Hem Kumar Chettri -DM Mangan, in his address, congratulated and expressed his gratitude towards all the veterinarians for their roles in ensuring the welfare of animals in various settings. He also thanked the farmers for their participation and support and spoke on the scope of livelihood enhancement in dairy farming. He further urged them to avail the benefits provided by the state government and highlighted that the officials of the district are available to give them all the aid and support.

Ms Dechen Kaleon JD(AH&VS) briefly spoke on the significance of the day in celebrating the veterinarians and their pivotal role in animal health advocacy and communal well being across species. She also emphasised on the importance of sustainable and hygienic livestock rearing practices to ensure communal prosperity.

Thereafter, medals and certificates were awarded to the top three well bred and healthy calves. Consolation prizes along with mineral mixtures and De-wormers were also handed over to all the participants.

Dir AH&VS( Dzongu), Ms Sonam Diki Lepcha- Director AH&VS (Chungthang),Dr Rinchen Lhamu Bhutia -VO Mangan, Ms Diki Ongmu Lepcha-VO(MVU),Dr Hissay O Bhutia (KVK),Ms Bindiya Guring- ADDO(NDMU) staff of AH&VS and NDMU and students and teachers of St Joseph School, Mangan.
