Nawang Lama and Karma la Sherpa, who are State Technical Officials of the Badminton Association of Sikkim, have successfully become National Match Controllers and Grade-I umpires in India. Both completed the National Umpires assessment examinations/evaluations and the National Match Control exam held in Bhubaneswar, Orissa, conducted by the Badminton Association of India.

Nawang Lama, who currently works as an Assistant Professor in SRM University, Sikkim, completed the State Umpires examinations in 2022 and became the first National Match controller from Sikkim. Karma la Sherpa has been a technical official in several national and international events such as the prestigious India Open, Junior & Senior National championships, and many more. He has been evaluated from National Grade II to National Grade I Umpire.

The Badminton Association of Sikkim stated that this is a testament to their skills, knowledge, and passion for umpiring in badminton. Their success has brought great pride to BAS and the people of Sikkim. They are an inspiration to all young people who are passionate about sports and willing to work hard to achieve their dreams.
