Agriculture department Yangang hosts interactive millet programme to empower farmers and students

Kisan Gosthi-cum-Millet Transplanting Programme was organized today by ATMA, Agriculture Department, at Upper Tokday ward under Kolthang Tokday GPU. 

The event was graced by Hon’ble Deputy Speaker, SLA and Area MLA, Smt. Rajkumari Thapa, as the Chief Guest. The programme also witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including Shri R.K. Basnett, Retired Director, Horticulture Department, Shri S.B. Rai, OSD to Agriculture Department, OSD to Area MLA, Smt. Denkila Bhutia, Additional Director, FC Section, Dr. Pratap Subba, Hon’ble Zilla Panchayat, ward panchayats, Deputy Directors from Agriculture and Horticulture Departments, BDO Yangang, ADO, students and teachers of PM Shri Government Senior Secondary School, Lingmoo Kolthang, along with departmental staff and other esteemed guests.

The programme began with a welcome address by Ms. Vaishnu Rai, Deputy Director, Agriculture.

Dr. Pratap Subba, in his speech, highlighted the vast potential of millet cultivation in the subdivision and emphasized its prospects. He urged farmers to focus on value addition to enhance their income.

This was followed by an interactive session with farmers and students. Students inquired about the future scope of millet cultivation and related farming opportunities, while farmers raised pertinent queries, which were duly addressed.

Shri Bishnu Ram Niroula encouraged the farmers in his area to adopt value addition practices and commended the department’s initiatives in promoting farming and millet cultivation.

In her address, Smt. Rajkumari Thapa encouraged farmers, students, and the youth to consider farming as a sustainable career option. She also shed light on the possibilities of Agrotourism.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Florenz Bhutia, ADO.

Later, at the field of Mr. Lok Nath Dahal, dignitaries, staff, students, and farmers actively participated in the transplanting of millet variety VL-352.

The programme not only celebrated the age-old tradition of millet cultivation but also reflected the department’s vision of ushering in a progressive future for farming in the region.
