Pakyong, August 03 (IPR): The 79th Independence Day Open Knockout Football Tournament 2025 continues to captivate football enthusiasts, with the third day of matches taking place at St Xavier’s School ground, Pakyong, today.
The tournament is organised by Pakyong Sporting Club in collaboration with the District Administrative Centre (DAC), Pakyong. It is also held to commemorate 50 Glorious Years of Sikkim’s Statehood and aims to promote the message of ‘Nasha Mukt Sikkim’.
The event was graced by Minister for Rural Development Department (RDD) and Cooperation Department, Mr Arun Kumar Upreti, as the chief guest.
Also present as guests of honour were Zilla Panchayat West Pendam, Mr Bibek Chettri; Chairman, Panchayati Raj, Mr BB Chettri; Additional District Collector, Pakyong, Mr Sangay Gyasto Bhutia; ADC (Dev), Mr Robin Pd Sewa; Superintending Engineer, Urban Development Department, Mr Suman Shanker and Divisional Engineer, Pakyong District Zilla Panchayat, Mr Kailash Khatiwara as guests of honour.
As part of the day’s proceedings, three matches were held between the participating teams.
The District Level Inter School Under-14 Boys Football Tournament also entered its second day. The tournament is being jointly organised by the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Pakyong District, and DAC, Pakyong.
In the District Level Inter School Under-14 Boys Football Tournament, Tikalal Niroula Government Senior Secondary School
faced Damlakha Junior High School, where Tikalal Niroula Government SSS secured a win with the score of 4-0.
The second match was played between 20 Chujachen and Pachey United, where 20 Chujachen emerged victorious, with the score of 2-1.
Mr Pradeep Lama from 20 Chujachen was honoured as Man of the Match.
In the third match, Brotherhood FC faced Denzong Boys, where Brotherhood FC secured a win, with the score of 2-1.
Mr Sahil Chettri from Brotherhood FC was named Man of the Match for his contributions during the game.
The day also featured cultural performances by Bahai School and Rolep Lamaten GPU, along with a band performance and NCC presentation by the students of St Xavier’s School.
The tournament also had the participation of Zilla Adhyaksha, Pakyong District, Mrs Laden Lhamu Bhutia; BDO Pakyong, Mr Sangay Tamang; BDO Parakha, Mr Kewal Sharma; Assistant Engineer BAC Pakyong, Mr Prakash Kharel and AE PDZP, Mr Jayant Dulal.
