The 45th Foundation Day Celebrations of Sirijunga Yakthung Sakthim Phojumbho (SYSP) commenced today at Yakthung Sakthim Heem (Limboo Cultural Centre) in Tharpu, Soreng district.
The first day of two day celebrations was graced by Minister for Buildings and Housing Department Mr Bhim Hang Limboo as the chief guest and was accompanied by MLA (Soreng-Chakung) and chief patron Mr Aditya Golay.
Sirijunga Yakthung Sakthim Phojumbho (Sirijunga Limboo Cultural Society) was established on August 23, 1980, and has been instrumental in preserving and promoting Limboo culture and traditions. The event also paid tribute to the Late Man Bahadur Khewa, whose visionary leadership and dedication were crucial in the success of Sirijunga Yakthung Sakthim Phojumbho.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest thanked and congratulated Sirijunga Yakthung Sakthim Phojumbho on the occasion of 45th foundation day. Highlighting concerns over the declining number of literary works, he urged all the participants to contribute in the literary works in the Limboo language. “It is our collective responsibility to ensure that our language does not fade away”, he stated, emphasising the importance of cultural preservation through literature.
Additionally, he highlighted a series of remarkable achievements and ongoing projects for the Limboo community under the leadership of the Chief Minister of Sikkim Mr Prem Singh Tamang. On behalf of the entire Limboo community, he extended heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Minister for his continued support towards the Limboo community.
In his address, Dr. BL Khamdhak Assistant Professor (Khangchendzonga State University), who attended the programme as resource person gave a comprehensive summary of the previous workshop with examples.
Marking the beginning of the two day celebrations, the day had a dedicated workshop on Tam-Akkay, Kenjory, Sirdhappey, Tumyehang Samlo, Hakparey Samlo, and Khyali, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of the Limboo community.
Also, the programme held a special workshop on “Yeba Laang”, presented by Mr Buddha Bir Subba, showcasing its various forms and cultural importance. And, Mr Rup Lal Mering emphasised on “Silam Sakma”, highlighting its creation along with its significance in the traditions of the Limboo community.
The event also conducted a session at the end of the workshop, wherein the present attendees actively engaged in discussing their concerns.
An exhibition of the traditional “Dhan Naach” from Timburbong, “Hakparey Samlo” from Thongling and a special performance on “Hakparey Samlo” from Mr SB Limboo were showcased at the event.
Further, the programme included a ceremonial presentation of mementos to the present dignitaries, as a token of appreciation for their presence and contribution.
Initially, the programme commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by the welcome address delivered by Mr SB Subba President (SYSP).
The programme also had the presence of Zilla Panchayats, Panchayats, Advisor (IPR Department) Mr SB Subba, Advisor (SBS) Mr Biren Chandra Rai, Chairperson (Sikkim Scheduled Tribes Welfare Board) Mr PK Subba, Additional Political Secretary to HCM (Soreng) Mr Eras Luksom, OSDs, SP (Soreng) Mr Nahkul Pradhan, SDM (HQ) Mr Prem K Subba, BDOs, Head of Departments, Head of Offices, retired employees, officers and officials, teachers, participants, students and public.
