Sikkim: Three days workshop on sexual harresment of women at workplace concludes

Three  day workshop themed “Training of Trainers”  on Sexual Harassment of women at workplace under the  Act of  2013 and  protection of women from Domestic violence Act of  2005, Human Trafficking and other relevant provisions for women concludes.

The workshop was organised at  Samaj Kalyan  Bhawan Lumsey  East Sikkim started on September 21 and ended on September 23.  21 participants from all four district participated in the  three day  workshop  from different workplaces including NGOs, Police, Press and media and  Panchayats of different wards. 

The three day workshop was organised  by Sikkim State Commission for Women Government of Sikkim in collaboration with Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice Government of India. 

Chungkipu Lepcha, Chairperson Sikkim State for women as a Chief Guest. Further  Naandita Pradhan, Director Martha Farell Foundation was the  resource person from Delhi along with Yousa Lachungpa as the Project Director from Sikkim state women’s commission.

Following the session, resource person Nandita Pradhan took the  session on Sexual Harassment of women at Workplace in which Pradhan explained about the provisions about workplace sexual harresment.  

Gulshan Lama, Advocate, District Court East Sikkim was another resoure person Wherin Lama explained about Protection of women from Domestic violence Act of 2005 in which provisions under the act was explained by Lama. 

Furthermore Tashi Rabden Burfungpa Advocate, General Secretary of Bar Association of Sikkim also explained legal terms under  Protection of Children and other Offences, POSCO, Human Trafficking , Indian Penal Code (IPC) and other provision for women.

The main objective of the workshop “Training of Trainers” was to sensitize society about sexual harresment faced in workplace.  Report
