Sikkim observes Martyr’s Day; honours freedom fighting heroes

In the honour of our freedom fighters, whose sacrifices and heroics in fighting for India’s freedom will always be etched in the hearts of all the patriots of the country, let alone in the history books, Sikkim observed Martyr’s Day, which is observed on the January 30.

There are a total of seven days declared as Martyr’s Day and observed in the nation, out of which January 30 is observed on national level. Jan 30 is selected in memory of Mahatma Gandhi, who was martyred on this day in the year 1948.

Soreng District

Honouring the heroic deeds and sacrifices of our freedom fighters, Martyr’s Day was observed at the premises of DAC Soreng, today.

DC Soreng, Bhim Thatal, the Officers and Staff of DAC Soreng paid their due respect by offering two minutes of silent prayers.

Further, Thatal spoke about the significance of the day and informed that the day also marks the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi.

Gyalshing District

The District Level Martyr’s day was observed at District Administrative Centre, Rabdentse to remember and offer deep respect to the eminent personnel’s sacrifices and selfless contributions in the struggle for the freedom of India from the oppression of the colonial regime.

District Collector Gyalshing Yishey D. Yongda along with DIGP Shri Hari Chettri, SDM HQ Gopal K Chettri, SDM Gyalshing Santosh K Alley, heads and officials from lined departments of the DAC Rabdentse offered their reverence through two minutes of silence.

Martyrs’ Day, also known as Shaheed Diwas, is observed throughout India on January 30 to commemorate the death of Mahatma Gandhi, who was assassinated on this day in 1948. And, also in special remembrance of Bhagat Singh, Suk Dev and Raj Guru.

The day is observed as a day of non-violence and peace.

Gangtok District

Tashling Secretariat

Martyr’s Day was observed here in the premises of Tashling Secretariat

in Gangtok, today.

Chief Secretary, V B Pathak along with HoDs of different departments, were present to

pay tribute to the Martyrs of the freedom struggle.

Martyrs’ Day is observed on 30th January throughout the country with two minutes’ silence in memory of those who gave their lives in the struggle for India’s freedom.

Information and Public Relations Department

Two minutes of silence was observed to mark Martyr’s Day (Sarvodaya Day) today at the courtyard of Information and Public Relations Department.

Secretary, IPR Department, Namrata Thapa, administered the session for the officers and staff of the department.

There are a total of seven days declared as Martyr’s Day and observed in the nation, out of which 30th January is observed as one at the national level, in memory of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, who was martyred on this day in the year 1948.

The Martyr’s Day was observed today at all the Government Offices at Gangtok and District and Sub-Divisional headquarters.

Sikkim Supreme – Govt. Fruit Preservation Factory

In memory of Those Who Gave Their Lives in the Struggle for Freedom on Martyrs’ Day, 30 January, Govt. Fruit Preservation Factory: Sikkim Supreme paid tribute to the brave souls who gave their lives in the Struggle for freedom on Martyrs’ Day, 30th January 2023.

To commemorate this day , all the staff and workers of Sikkim Supreme observed 2 minute silence in memory of all the fallen heros,who made the ultimate sacrifice in the pursuit of freedom and justice.

The observation reaffirms its commitment to inspire people to come together and work towards building a better and a just world.

Pakyong District

On Martyrs’ Day, District Administration Centre, Pakyong paid tribute to the Martyrs of the freedom struggle here in the premises of DAC Pakyong, District, today.

SDM Pakyong along with officials from the line departments and DAC staff gathered to pay tributes to the freedom fighters. They also observed two-minute silence to commemorate the martyrs.

Similarly, to commemorate the martyrs day a two minute silence was also observed in Rongli SDM office, Rangpo SDM office, Parakha BAC and Regu.

It is to mention here that on January 30th every year Martyrs’ Day is celebrated all over the country. This day is the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and the sacrifices of other Indians who laid down their lives in the service of the nation.

Mangan

The Martyrs Day was observed in the complex of District Administrative Center Mangan.

D.C Mangan, Hem Kumar Chettri, A.D.M Mangan, Tshering Yangdon Shartso, along with officers and staffs of DAC Mangan observed 2 minutes silence in memory of those who gave their lives in the struggle of India’s freedom.

On this day every year, Martyrs’ Day is celebrated to honour the sacrifices made by countless brave Indians who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
