Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) all set to conduct 21st e- Convocation ceremony on virtual mode

GANGTOK: The 21st e-Convocation ceremony of Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) will be held virtually on October 23 2021, keeping in mind the safety of students and the COVID-19 guidelines in place.

Governor of Sikkim, Ganga Prasad, who is also the Chancellor of SMU, will preside over the function and address the students, faculty, staff and management via online mode. The chief guest for the event is Dr. C. N. Manjunath, MD. DM, FICC, FACC, FRCP, eminent cardiologist & Director, Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, Bengaluru, who will also deliver the Convocation address also via video conference.

This Convocation is a momentous milestone in the history of SMU to celebrate the academic and professional accomplishments of the outgoing students in various multi-disciplinary graduate, post graduate and PhD programmes. It has been the earnest endeavour of SMU facilitate maximum online participation in this important annual event which will be live- streamed.

This is the second time that SMU is conducting a virtual convocation ceremony. While the University understands the importance of celebrating the remarkable achievements and hard work of the illustrious alumni in reaching this significant milestone, the traditional convocation ceremonies have been revoked due to the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic. This decision has been taken to safeguard the graduating students and their parents from the potential risks of travel and exposure.

1,089 students from all constituent colleges and units of SMU namely Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT), Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences (SMIMS), Sikkim Manipal College of Nursing (SMCON), Sikkim Manipal College of Physiotherapy (SMCPT), SMU Department of Humanities & Social Sciences, Departments of Medical Biotechnology and Hospital Administration in MBBS, MD-MS, B. Tech, M. Tech, BSc & MSc Nursing, Bachelors & Masters in Physiotherapy, BSc & MSc in Medical Biotechnology, Masters in Hospital Administration, BBA, MBA, BCA, MCA, MSc (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics), BA, MA, BCom, MCom and PhD Courses will be conferred their degrees online as they join the virtual platform.
