Rangpo Police Station has registered one cognizable case in connection with the alleged illegal transportation of a cow intended for slaughter at Sawney, Golitar, under its jurisdiction.

According to police sources, a written FIR was received from Shri Somnath Pandey, Head of QRT and President of Dharma Jagaran Samajwava, RSS Sikkim. He stated that on December 22, 2025, at around 4:00 PM, he and his colleagues intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number SK01 D 3507 at Sawney, Golitar, on suspicion of illegal cattle transportation. Upon inspection, one cow was found being transported in a cruel and illegal manner without any valid permit, authorisation, or certificate.

The vehicle was allegedly occupied by two individuals identified as Ayush Gurung, son of Diven Gurung, and Nikesh Tamang. Based on the facts and circumstances, it was alleged that the cow was being transported for the purpose of slaughter.

Accordingly, Rangpo P.S. Case No. 66/2025 dated December 22, 2025, was registered under Sections 325/3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, read with Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, against the named accused persons along with other unknown persons involved in the selling and transportation of the cow.

Police also informed that Sections 3 and 8 of the Sikkim Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act, 2017, are attracted in the case. However, these sections could not be reflected in the formal FIR due to the non-availability of the Act in the CCTNS system. The sections have since been duly incorporated, and a separate intimation will be submitted to the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Pakyong.

The place of occurrence has been identified as Sawney, West Pendam, Pakyong District. No arrests have been made so far, and no bail or custody details have been reported. The case is currently under investigation.

Meanwhile, two vehicles were also challaned under the provisions of the Central Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, during the course of related enforcement action.
