Plantation drive by AMRUT mitras under ‘Women for Trees’ at Development Area, Gangtok

In a committed effort towards promoting urban greenery and environmental sustainability, the Urban Development Department organized a plantation drive on 6th June at the Development Area, Gangtok, with the AMRUT Mitras , under the “ Women for Tree “ campaign, which was launched earlier on May 21st .
The phase I of the campaign was held on 21st & 22nd May 2025 where the SHG members in coordination with Urban Development Authorities /Urban Local Bodies identified various sites and made plan for the plantation.
This plantation drive is the part of the 2nd Phase of the ‘Women for Trees’ campaign wherein similar plantation drives will be carried out in the identified sites from June 5th till August 31st in all the identified sites .
Secretary, Urban Development Department who is also the Mission Director of AMRUT led the campaign along with the Mission Director from DAY –NULM . The event, held on the occasion of World Environment Week, was witnessed with enthusiastic participation from the SHG members and officials from the Urban Development Department . Over 70 saplings of flowering plants were planted across the AMRUT park in Development Area, with a focus on enhancing green cover, improving air quality, and fostering ecological balance in the urban landscape.
The event concluded with a pledge by all participants to care for the planted saplings and continue contributing to environmental protection efforts throughout the year.
