Para Glider and Passenger Go Missing At Lachung River

A 26-year-old para glider Sandeep Gurung, a resident of Thami Dara, Resithang, Ranka, along with a tourist passenger of 23 years, Esha Reddy Sankepalli, daughter of Ram Kumar Reddy Sankepalli from Khammam, Hyderabad, Telangana, were recorded missing after they took off for their glider flight. It is reported that the pilot and the passenger lost balance and were swept away in Lachung river.

According to the police reports, the duo took off their flight at around 09:30 AM from Lachung View point had accidentally got tangled and stuck in the wire at Phaka, Lachung. Thereafter losing their balance after which they fell into Lachung River. The duo thereafter were swept away by the river and subsequently got stuck beneath a boulder lying in the river bed. It has been informed that a rescue operation is being conducted by the local police, locals, Army personnel and ITBP personnel, but due high current of the river body, the missing persons have not been retrieved yet. However, it is reported that efforts are being made to retrieve the missing people.

No information is yet received of the missing persons’ survival.
