Namchi District celebrates World Youth Skills Day

District Outreach Programme on Skill Development under Sikkim Integrated Service Provision and Innovation for Reviving Economies
(INSPIRES) as part of observance of the World Youth Skills Day, 2025 was held at the Town Hall, Namchi, today.

Organised by the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Kewzing under Skill Development Department in collaboration with the District Skill Committee Namchi.
The programme was graced by MLA Namchi-Singhithang Mr Satish Chandra Rai as the Chief Guest.

Also present during the event were, Advisor (Panchayati Raj) Mrs Rama Tamang, Zilla Adhakshya(Namchi) Ms Anjeeta Rai, DC (Namchi) Ms Anupa Tamling, Sr SP (Namchi) Mr Karma Gyamtso Bhutia, ADC (Namchi) Mr Subash Ghimiray SDM (HQ) Mr Nim Pintsho Bhutia, Joint Secretary (Skill Development) Mrs Sushma Pradhan, GM NHPC (Rangit) Mr Shrawan Kumar Mishra alongwith Councillors of NMC, Principals, Teachers and students from ITIs and various schools.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Satish Chandra Rai emphasized the critical role of skilled youth in enhancing employment opportunities. He highlighted the various skill development programmes and courses initiated by the Government and departments aimed at empowering individuals with practical and industry-relevant competencies.

He further underscored the importance of initiatives such as “One Family, One Entrepreneur,” which are designed to encourage and support aspiring individuals to pursue entrepreneurial ventures, thereby fostering self-reliance and economic independence.

He further urged unemployed but educated youth to actively enroll in training programmes offered through Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), enabling them to become job-ready rather than remaining dependent on limited conventional opportunities.

He reiterated that under the visionary leadership of the Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang, the government has extended substantial financial assistance and training support to the aspiring students in high-demand fields such as MBBS, Nursing, Pilot training, and many more, and hence urged the youth to be dedicated with their goals and aspiration to contribute meaningfully to the workforce.

Sr SP Namchi in his address, underscored the pivotal role of discipline in the lives of youth and its significance across all walks of life for personal and societal growth. He emphasized that cultivating discipline is fundamental to shaping responsible and law-abiding citizens.

He further advised the youth to refrain from smoking, substance abuse, and negative peer influence, which can adversely affect their health and future. Encouraging them to lead a purposeful life, he urged the young generation to make informed choices and align themselves with positive values for a better and more meaningful future.

Mr Aniket Sharma, an alumnus ITI Kewzing, also shared his personal experience regarding the skill training he acquired during his time at the institute. He expressed gratitude for the opportunities provided through the vocational training programme, which enabled him to develop practical competencies aligned with his interests. As a result, he successfully secured employment in a private company, leading to financial independence and personal growth

Similarly, Imstructor ITI Kewzing Mr Animesh Thakuri also made a presentation on the new age technology and its efficiency in todays era.

A panel discussion on the importance of Skills Development were also convened, comprising of panelists namely Zilla Adhakshya Ms Anjeeta Rai, ADC Mr Subash Ghimiray, Joint Secretary Ms Sushma Pradhan and GM NHPC Mr Shrawan Kumar Mishra.

The discussion was moderated by Ms Smita Rai. The discussion focused on various prospects of future opportunities for vocational training, and explored how to train and nuture the abilities of youths for nation-building.

During the programme, the Chief Guest alao visited the exhibition of project demos that were displayed by the students of ITIs.

The programme also saw cultural and song presentation by the students. Certificates were also distributed to the participants of the painting competition in recognition of their active participation and creative contributions.
