Meeting held at CS’s office to discuss flash flood relief & protection measures for Lachen Dzumsa

A crucial meeting was convened at the Office of the Chief Secretary, Tashiling secretariat, under the chairmanship of Shri Samdup Lepcha, Minister cum Area MLA, Lachen Mangan Constituency. The meeting was attended by Shri. Bandu Lachenpa, Pipon and members of the Lachen Dzumsa for placing the demands of the public of Lachen.

The recent flash flood that occurred on May 29, 2025, has left the people of Lachen going through a rough time, and the meeting focused on discussing urgent relief and protection measures to support the affected communities.

Key discussions included:

  • Construction of temporary foot suspension bridges
  • Restoration of electricity lines (66KV pillars) and mobile networks
  • Supply of essential commodities to Lachen Dzumsa
  • Priority assessment of affected areas by government departments
  • Restoration of drinking water facilities
  • Providing funds for Construction of 13 log bridges, clearing of Zeema IV to Zeema Khola Roads and clearing of Zeema to Tsepten Rods.

The meeting also emphasized the importance of monitoring restoration work on access roads to Lachen by the Government. The attendees deliberated on the way forward to ensure timely and effective implementation of relief and protection measures.

The Chief Secretary has given a positive response to the demands and has assured that all necessary sanctions will be provided to facilitate the relief and restoration work.

The attendees expressed gratitude for the CS’s assurance and commitment to supporting the affected communities. The government remains committed to providing timely support and assistance to ensure the well being of the affected people of Lachen.
