Member of Parliament Indra Hang Subba today attended the All-Party Meeting representing the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM). The meeting was chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in the presence of Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju Ji, Minister Shri J. P. Nadda Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal and L. Murugan
During the meeting, Indra Hang Subba raised the critical issue of climate change and its severe impact on the Himalayan and glacial ecosystem, including drinking water scarcity and the increasing incidence of flash floods. He strongly demanded a special discussion on climate change on the floor of Parliament. The MP further proposed the constitution of a Standing Committee comprising Members of Parliament from Himalayan regions to deliberate on region-specific challenges and to recommend necessary changes in policies and schemes.
In view of the ongoing Budget Session, Subba suggested to the Chair and the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs that provisions be made for discussions on the Demands for Grants of Ministries related to Tribal Affairs, Minority Affairs, and the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), so that the issues and priorities may be discussed in detail. He emphasised that the welfare of tribal and minority communities is of utmost importance if the vision of Viksit Bharat is to be realised.
Representing the people of Sikkim, the MP apprised the House of the long-pending issue of reservation of the Limboo–Tamang seat in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly and urged the Union Government to take immediate action. He also highlighted the State Government’s demand for the inclusion of 12 left-out communities in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list, stating that their exclusion is a historical mistake and requires immediate resolution to ensure equity and justice in Sikkim.
