The Indian Embassy in Tehran has issued an urgent advisory, calling on all Indian nationals and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) residing in the Iranian capital to leave the city immediately as the security situation worsens amid escalating Israeli airstrikes on Tehran.
The embassy’s advisory, released Tuesday, specifically urges those who can arrange their own transportation to relocate to safer areas outside Tehran without delay. “All Indian Nationals and PIOs who can move out of Tehran using their own resources are advised to move to a safe location outside the city,” the statement read.
Indian citizens in Tehran who have not yet registered their presence with the embassy have been asked to urgently contact the mission and provide their location and contact details. The embassy has shared emergency helpline numbers for immediate assistance.
The advisory comes as Israel and Iran enter the fifth consecutive day of intense aerial attacks, with both sides reporting heavy casualties. Iranian authorities have reported at least 224 deaths, mostly civilians, while Israel has reported 24 civilian fatalities. The ongoing conflict has led to the evacuation of around 3,000 Israelis from affected areas.
In response to the crisis, India has begun evacuating its citizens from Iran. Government sources confirmed that the first batch of 110 Indian nationals crossed into Armenia on Monday night. With Iranian airspace closed, Tehran has advised Indian students and other nationals to exit via land borders to Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, or Afghanistan.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in New Delhi has set up a 24×7 control room to monitor the situation and assist Indian nationals. The MEA has also provided additional helplines and a dedicated email for those seeking help.
