On the occasion of the 77th Republic Day of India and the historic milestone of 50 years of Sikkim’s Statehood the Government Fruit Preservation Factory (GFPF), under the Commerce & Industries Department, Government of Sikkim, officially launched three locally inspired premium dark chocolates, showcasing the state’s rich agricultural heritage and honouring the dedication of its farmers.
The products were formally unveiled in the august presence of the Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur, Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), Secretary, Commerce & Industries Department Ms Karma D. Youtso, Managing Director of GFPF Ms Chanda Rani Rai, along with senior officials of GFPF.
Each chocolate draws its distinctive identity from Sikkim’s globally renowned agricultural produce. The Sikkim Mandarin Orange Dark Chocolate (55% cocoa) celebrates the iconic mandarins that have been an integral part of the state’s culture and daily life for decades. The Dalle Chilli Dark Chocolate (47% cocoa) offers a bold and unique flavour, incorporating Sikkim’s GI-tagged Dalle Chilli, famed for its heat and aroma. The Large Cardamom Dark Chocolate (47% cocoa) highlights Sikkim’s world-famous GI-tagged Large Cardamom, known for its superior quality and rich fragrance.
“Beyond being premium confections, these chocolates embody our commitment to honouring farmers, celebrating local produce, and preserving traditional knowledge through meaningful value addition in a modern form. As Sikkim marks 50 years of Statehood, this product also stands as a tribute to the State’s farmers—the true custodians who have nurtured this crop into a proud symbol of Sikkim,” said Managing Director of GFPF, Chanda Rani Rai.
She further added, “As Sikkim commemorates 50 years of Statehood, the launch symbolises how local strengths and indigenous resources can be transformed into sustainable economic opportunities for the future. The initiative reinforces the state government’s vision of inclusive growth, innovation, and value addition rooted in local identity”
With pride and purpose, the launch stands as a celebration of “Sunawlo, Samriddhi ani Samartha Sikkim”, reflecting a golden, prosperous and empowered future for the state.
