Fisheries Department along with MG-NREGA, RDD (Soreng District) successfully conducted work initiation meeting for the construction of Fish Tanks under the organic cluster fish tank initiative at Lungyam village, Lungchok- Salangdang GPU, under Soreng District, on June 19.
The programme was chaired by ADC (Dev) Mr Gaayas Pega and was accompanied by Panchayat Members of Lungchok- Salangdang GPU, Assistant Director (Fisheries Department, Soreng) Mr Yowa Raj Sharma, BDO (Daramdin) Mr Ongdi Sherpa, Range Officer Mr KP Sharma, Block Officer Ms Deepa Chettri, APO (BAC, Daramdin) Mr Abishek Rai, GRS (Lungchok- Salangdang) Ms Sujana Subba, officials from line departments, field officials and local fish farmers.
Mr Gaayas Pega addressed the house where, he provided a brief overview of the the Organic Cluster Fish Tank initiative. While stressing on the objectives of the initiative, he spoke about the growing market demand for organic products, urging beneficiaries to recognise the importance of this opportunity not only for personal livelihood but also for building a village level brand.
He further, highlighted that Lungyam Village was selected for this project due to its natural advantages, making it an ideal site for organic fish farming. He encouraged the beneficiaries to engage in the initiative with seriousness and commitment, underlining its potential towards economic development and long term prosperity in the region.
He also elaborated on the key role of MG-NREGA in supporting the implementation and urged everyone to look beyond minor obstacles and stay focused on the broader vision of sustainable development. The initiative aims to generate employment and increase household incomes, he added.
He concluded his address by stating, “This is not just a project, it is an opportunity for the people of Lungyam village to shape a better future for themselves and the generations to come.”
The house was also addressed by Mr Yowa Raj Sharma, who also provided a detailed overview of the project. He mentioned that this is an initiative of the Government of India, aimed at creating opportunities and uplifting rural communities. He informed that Lungyam village has been selected as a model site in Soreng District and assured beneficiaries that the department would offer necessary support that includes technical guidance and techniques for pond construction.
In addition, the department will provide fingerlings to promote fish farming and enhance livelihood generation in the village. He also emphasised the importance of marketing strategies, identifying the right target audiences and building a foundation for successful rural entrepreneurship and further stated the long term benefits of the initiative and assured the department’s continued support in ensuring its successful implementation.
Likewise, Mr Ongdi Sherpa urged the farmers to initiate the work of construction of fisheries ponds through MG-NREGA in Lungyam village such that the organic carp fish production comes in near future from Lungyam Daramdin Block.
As part of the programme, an open house discussion was also conducted, allowing beneficiaries and stakeholders to share feedback and suggestions.
