The meeting was presided over by DEO-cum-District Collector, Gyalshing, Mr Tenzing D Denzongpa, accompanied by ERO-cum-SDM Gyalshing, Mr Sandesh Subba, ERO-cum-SDM (HQ), Mr Pulkit, IAS, along with election officials and representatives from various political parties. The session commenced with SDM Gyalshing highlighting two key agenda points to be undertaken in the forthcoming days viz. rationalisation of Polling Stations and Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls.
The discussion on rationalisation underscored the importance of reviewing and restructuring polling station locations to ensure equitable distribution of electors, enhance accessibility for all voters and improve logistical arrangements.
The process takes into account geographical conditions, population density and transport connectivity, while ensuring the use of neutral and suitable venues, free from political or religious influence. On the Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls, the meeting emphasised its role as a focused, time-bound exercise aimed at updating and purifying the electoral roll to accurately reflect the eligible voting population.
It will involve an intensive house-to-house verification by Booth Level Officers to verify existing entries, identify new eligible voters and remove ineligible names. The process also addresses necessary corrections in voter details and promotes awareness campaigns to encourage citizens to verify their information.Representatives of political parties were apprised of both initiatives and were advised to appoint Block Level Agents at the earliest to assist Booth Level Officers in streamlining the process and preventing any confusion.
The District Collector urged all stakeholders to cooperate fully with the directives, avoid last-minute complications, and work collectively to ensure a smooth and transparent process. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to the chair.
