Pakyong, June 16(IPR): In an effort to raise awareness against the growing menace of drug abuse and its harmful impact on society, an Anti-Drug Awareness Programme was conducted today at Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Rangpo. The event was organised under the banner of Jan Samvad Social Council, Sikkim wing, drawing participation from dignitaries, law enforcement officials, educators, students, and members of the public.
The programme witnessed the presence of Shri Rohit Raj Maharaj, Advisor to the Chief Minister of Sikkim, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He was joined by Dr Sanjay Chettri, Chairman of Jan Samvad Social Council, India, and Senior Superintendent of Police, Pakyong District Mrs Paru Ruchal.
Among the other notable dignitaries were SDPO Rongli, MEO Rongpo Nagar Panchayat (RNP), officials from RNP and Principal of Govt. ITI Rangpo.
The day-long programme was meticulously structured to address multiple dimensions of the drug abuse crisis currently affecting not only Sikkim but the country at large. With the rise in substance abuse, particularly among the youth, the programme sought to educate, inform, and inspire both preventive and rehabilitative measures.
Another significant highlight of the programme was the formal inauguration of the World Youth Skills Day 2025 celebrations. This marked the official launch of a month-long series of events and activities dedicated to promoting skill development, vocational training, and youth empowerment.
