Two-day-long training and demonstration programme on irrigation system conducted at Nimthang
The two-day-long training and demonstration programme on 'Microsprinkler irrigation system in hilly terrains' was conducted on February 19, 2021 at Nimthang village, Nandok, East Sikkim.
The programme was conducted and organised by the IDE Department of College of Agricultural Engineering Post-Harvest Technology (CAEPHT). The training was cp-ordinated by Dr. G.P Patle, Assistant Professor at CAEPHT and Micro-irrigation expert of ICAR-MIS, Dr. Shivam, Assistant Professor of CAEPHT along with Engineer Tshering Sangmo Sherpa, Senior Research Fellow at CAEPHT. The programme was conducted in order to spread the knowledge about the different systems of micro-irrigation, and was participated by over 40 villagers from Nimthang, from which 15 were women participants and the rest men.
The programme introduced and further explained about the different forms of micro-irrigation system with it becoming one of the solutions to save water as well. Furthermore, the design and the installation of the system, along with its components and functions was also elaborated upon during the programme. The demonstration of the programme and the use of the sprinkler and the uses of the deep irrigation system was conducted by Dr. Shivam and Dr. G.P Patle with the villagers actively participating and learning during the process.
Following which, the participants expressed their gratitude to the co-ordinators and CAEPHT for creating the awareness programme. The programme was concluded with the distribution of sprinklers along with packed lunches for the participants.
