Gangtok, May 1: A case of MBBS admission racket in Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences ( SMIMS) has surfaced after a compliant was registered with the crime department.
The police working to solve the case suspect that it may be the pan India racket.
” We are investigating the matter and would not be able to disclose more on it” said a senior police officer taking with SC over phone.
The compliant was lodged by the Dean of SMIMS in the month of April after which the investigation was initiated.
The police team on April 30 conducted a raids in different places in Siliguri in context to the case.
” There was some tip off information on some suspected places operating in Siliguri, we will give more details once the investigation is over” said the sources.
The sources informed, ” It seems the group is involved in an organized crime. They contact the parents of the candidates seeking admission for medicine in SMIMS impersonating dean. They were asked to deposit money in the account and later disappear. The matter came into light when the candidates reach SMIMS in Sikkim to find that no such communication was made from the office of the dean”
