18th Oct 2019: AIC-SMUTBI (Sikkim Manipal University Technology Business Incubator), Majitar hosted a one-day workshop on ‘How and When to Raise Funding for Start-ups’ at their Incubation Centre. The workshop was conducted by the founder of India’s largest online platform for start-up funding ‘Lets Venture’, Ms Shanti Mohan. She is an entrepreneur and an Angel Investor with a pool of investors and renowned names like Ratan Tata, Azim Premji (Chairman, Wipro Ltd), T. V. Mohandas Pai (Chairman, Manipal Group Education), Sachin Bansal (Co-founder, Flipkart) and Kunal Bahl (CEO Snapdeal) to her list.
The first half of the day started by welcoming Ms Shanti Mohan by the CEO, AIC-SMUTBI, Dr Tej Chingtham, followed by the workshop which gave insight on start-up fundraising.
The workshop was insightful for all the early-stage start-ups who were looking to validate their idea or even actively looking for investors. Some key aspects were also on how to begin a start-up and the phases every entrepreneur must go through before looking for investors for their venture. The session also included a mock pitching session by 2 entrepreneurs. They, along with other entrepreneurs, received general as well as specific feedback on how to pitch, what to focus on and many more.
The second half was exclusively for one on one interaction session between Ms Shanti Mohan and incubatees of AIC-SMUTBI and few entrepreneurs from Sikkim, Bangalore & Siliguri.
After taking a review from the entrepreneurs, they gained much insight from the entire day. While the first session was generic, the second session gave them specific feedback, thus clearing any specific doubts.
That being said, everyone who visited today went back a bit wiser than before.
