Sikkim’s Edu T Bhutia sets world record for highest Incline Benchpress in Strengthlifting

Sikkim’s Edu T Bhutia has set the world record for highest Incline Benchpress in Strengthlifting (women category, 75kgs) at the 7th International Strengthlifting and Incline Benchpress Championship 2019.

3 female lifters from Sikkim, Ranju Sundas Edu Tshering Bhutia and Kalpana Chettri also secured double gold medals in their respective categories.

Eleven athletes from Sikkim, including eight men and three women, were selected to represent India in the 7th International Strengthlifting and Incline Bench Press Championship held at Pench, Madhya Pradesh from January 17 to 20. The championship is organised by the Asian Strengthlifting Federation in coordination with Indian Strengthlifting Federation and Maharashtra Strengthlifting Association.

The team from Sikkim Strengthlifting Association (SSA) was headed by chief coach and international gold medallist Pema Dorjee Bhutia.

Sikkim team has won 10 gold, 5 silver and 6 Bronze medals.
