Sikkim’s coronavirus tally at 53 active cases: 8 new cases reported
Gangtok, June 22: The seemingly never-ending crisis of the coronavirus, which has rocked the world for over 4 months, has been the number one concern for most.
In Sikkim, there has been a roller-coaster of cases till now, 8 new positive cases reported on Sunday took the state’s tally to 53 active cases in the present. The Sunday evening Health Bulletin by Dr Pemba T Bhutia, Director General cum Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim, informed that the 8 samples from different quarantine people came out with positive results.
The information from the bulletin said that all the 8 patients have been moved, of whom 4 have now been moved to the isolation ward at STNM Hospital and 4 to the newly created isolation ward at Samdruptse at Namchi, from their facility quarantine centres.
It was informed that four positive cases hail from South Sikkim situated Government Quarantine Centre. Among the cases, three people who are aged 15-year-old, 35 years old and 36-year-old, had a travel history from Kisangunj, Bihar. One more 26-year-old male who returned from Siliguri had tested positive. These four people have been moved to Smadruptse isolation ward.
The 4 remaining patients from STNM isolation ward, as informed by Dr. Bhutia, were all secondary contacts to a female patient who had previously tested Covid-19 positive and is under treatment in STNM hospital at the moment, the contact happened at a facility quarantine in Gangtok. Among them, three are family members of the female, including her 5-year-old son and the fourth person is a 30-year-old female. Dr. Pempa informed that the four persons have been shifted to the newly created isolation ward at Samdruptse near Namchi.
