Sikkim’s active COVID-19 tally at 397, Health Secretary assures daily positive cases decreasing
Gangtok, July 29: According to the daily Health Bulletin by Director General cum Health Secretary Dr Pempa Tshering Bhutia, Sikkim’s total cases now stand at 596. Active cases have reached 397 after 198 patients were cured and discharged and only one death.
All the fresh cases are from the East district, which now has a cumulative of 415 cases.
Among the new cases, five have been reported via Rapid Antigen testing out of 80 samples, while the other 12 through RT-PCR out of 557 samples. A total of 32 tests were conducted via TrueNat and all have resulted in a negative result.
The Health Secretary said that all the 12 positive patients reported via RT-PCR testing are from Central Pendam and contacts from Chanatar, currently declared a Containment Zone by the East District Collector.
Testing of 65 samples of returnees was conducted in Rangpo and all reported negative.
Arrangements for patients who need dialysis is in process at Gyalshing, West Sikkim. A mock drill of health workers was also done on Tuesday.
There is a tentative plan of inviting five patients in the first phase this week, as there are now five machines. The Health Department is also planning to bring back stranded patients who need dialysis in Sikkim.
The Health Secretary said that the daily number of positive cases of COVID-19 is decreasing, with the Health Department working to control and bring it down. He requested for support from the people, stating that this battle cannot be fought without public support.
