Gangtok, 6 June: In a rather positive news for Sikkim, a final year Computer Science Engineering student studying at Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT), Majhitar, Phu Tshering Bhutia, a resident of Gyalshing, West Sikkim has been selected for “2019 ImagineIF Development Excellence Award” for his efforts in supporting NPD Material Library along with R&D team at Boston Scientific, a US-based multinational company.
This bright mind has already been recruited by Microsoft during the on-campus college placement in 2019.
ImagineIF innovation challenge is a venture-style approach to fund breakthrough ideas from employees through the program where the organization challenge employees to think through ways to advance the solutions to enhance customer and patient experience.
Phu Tshering interned with Boston Scientific for his final semester major project worked on the project “NPD Material Library”, where he worked to improve the keyword-based searching by writing some custom programs on top of the default functionality provided by the search engine. His contribution was instrumental in coding the solution.
For the above, Tshering and his team have been awarded the prestigious ImagineIF award by Boston Scientific, a US-based multinational company engaged in manufacturing of medical devices used in interventional medical specialities, including interventional radiology, and interventional cardiology.
Director, SMIT, Prof Dr Ashis Sharma, along with the faculty of the Computer Science Engineering Department, SMIT has congratulated Phu Tshering for his achievements. “He has not only made SMIT proud but the entire State of Sikkim”.
