PNGSSS students to represent the country in Robotex Asia in China and Robotex International in Estonia, Europe.
In the recently held Robotex Nationals in Ahmedabad, two teams from PNG School had made it to the finals in Lego Line Follower and Open Line Follower events.
The Lego Line Follower Team: Miss Bath Sheba Lepcha, Miss Prerna Pradhan and Miss Sristika Sharma have bagged the first position in their category.
Further they are now proudly representing the country in Robotex Asia, in China to be held from 16-19 August 2019 in Shanghai.
The winning team member along with coach also visited Minister for Education, Kunga Nima Lepcha, who expressed his happiness over the news and blessed the children with a motivational conversation amidst his busy schedule. Robotex International is an annual event and the biggest robotics festival on the planet. Thousands of engineers, executives, students and families come together to be inspired by industry leaders, examine new startups, build robots for various challenges and learn about the latest technology innovations. Robotex International will be hosted in Tallinn, Estonia, and Robotex Asia will take place in China on August 16-18, 2019.
In a robotics competition there are different categories of competition and line following is the most popular category with maximum participants.
A line follower robot is designed and programmed to follow a particular track given by the judges on a mat. Robotex event has the largest mat and thinnest line with sharp angles and loops which make it the toughest one in India.
“Our coach, Ivan sir always trained us to focus on the performance of the robot and not in the complexity of its mechanical design. This input given by sir was very helpful for us because in a big competition like these we tend to get carried away by looking at the bots others have prepared, which makes us more nervous. But as sir had taught us we stuck to the basics and believed in simplicity and elegance with maximum output of an efficient performance of the bot on the mat” expressed one of the team members.
