Sikkim reports 25 new COVID-19 cases, active cases stand at 447
Gangtok, August 7: According to the daily Health Bulletin by Director General cum Health Secretary Dr Pempa T Bhutia, 25 new cases have been recorded today, taking the total tally to 854, with 447 active cases.
East district reported six cases and South reported 19. The West and North districts informed no new cases.
Among the new cases, 24 have been reported via RT-PCR out of 313 tests conducted while one was through Rapid Antigen testing out of 173 samples.
All the new patients from South Sikkim are from Alkem Laboratory.
The other five are returnees who were residing in paid facility quarantine centre at Tashiling Residency, East Sikkim.
The Health Secretary informed that on Thursday 46 patients were discharged from the New STNM Hospital, Sochaygang, while one patient is still admitted at the ICU.
Additionally, he mentioned that the Taxi Drivers Association voluntarily promised the Health Department to assist them by noting down the phone numbers of the passengers on every trip to make contact tracing easier.
Although a welcome initiative, it has not been followed up entirely, therefore he requested people to note down the numbers of the taxi vehicles they board. He urged people to be cautious and careful about themselves and others.
