As Sikkim goes on poll for 17th Lok Sabha and 10th Assembly today, the state citizens are already seen in queue to exercise their legal rights in 567 polling stations in 32 constituencies of Sikkim. To make it more ease and to comply to the theme ‘no voter to be left behind’ Sikkim has set up Pink Polling Booth for the 2019 polls for the female voters of Sikkim.
The total of 39 Pink Polling Booths are set up and is completely managed by women personnels.
The main motive behind setting up the Pink polling booths is to encourage more women participation in the polling process and attain 100 per cent voters participation. The booths also is a method applied to make elections accessible to the women, person with disabilities voters and senior citizens.
West District Nodal Officer for Pink and Model Polling Booth, Bhumika Pradhan informed, “All women manned polling stations provide an encouraging ambience to the women voters, PWD voters and senior citizens. It has many facilities like selfie booths, drinking water, PWD friendly toilets, and the star facility is the volunteers who have been trained to help”.
She added, “200 volunteers have been trained in West Districts which has 141 polling stations. Special assistance will be provided to the PWD voters through the volunteers to achieve 100% PWD voters”.
West District is giving special facilities for Pink Polling Booth such as ‘I VOTED’ stickers will be provided to the women voters to give them the sense of achievement and make then feel important part in the Democratic process.
There are six Pink Polling Booth and nine Model Polling Booth in West District, where Pink Pilling booths are located in Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Kyongsa, Room Number I and II, Government Senior Secondary School, Pelling, Room Number I and Community hall, Geyzing, Room Number I, II and III.
