Gangtok, August 5 – The Sikkim Legislative Assembly passed the Sikkim Court Fees and Stamp on Documents (Amendment) Act, 2024, today.
Chief Minister, who also holds the portfolio of Finance Minister, presented the bill on August 5.
The newly passed legislation introduces e-stamping as a convenient alternative to traditional paper stamps.
“The concept of e-stamping aims to modernize the payment of stamp duty electronically, providing the same legal status as conventional stamps imprinted on instruments. E-stamping simplifies verification, reduces errors, and enhances traceability. This digital alternative secures the authentication process using unique identification numbers and electronic verification,” said the Chief Minister in his address.
The Sikkim Court Fees and Stamp on Documents (Amendment) Act, 2024, intends to insert clause (a) after Rule 4 to include digital e-stamping for the execution of documents. This advancement is expected to streamline and secure transactions.
This initiative marks an important step towards digitization and modernization in Sikkim’s administrative processes, ensuring more efficient and reliable services for users.
