Sikkim clinches one gold and five bronze in 2nd Elite Men’s Zone Championship

Gangtok, 5 July: In the 2nd ELITE MEN’S EAST ZONE CHAMPIONSHIP MEGHALAYA, Shillong (3rd July to 4th July) Sikkim has clinched one gold medal and five bronze medals.

The event was organised  by Meghalaya Boxing Association. There were six boxers participating in the championship and all have won medals.

Sukraj Rai has won in 56kg (gold) while the rest Raj Kumar Prasad 49 kg, Prem Kr Chettri 52kg, Lakpa Tamang 60kg, Pravesh Tamang 64kg and Subash Tamang 75kg have clinched bronze medals.

Sukraj Rai from Purano Namchi has won this competition East Zone Men’s Boxing Championships three times before.

Team coach Mukesh Rai and Manager Suman Lepcha have congratulated all the medal winners.

Sukraj Rai(24) was born to Bir Bahadur Rai and Moto Maya Rai. He is an alumni of New Light Academy, Namch.

He has a string of medals in boxing which includes Sub Junior National Silver medal ( India National Camp), Sub Junior National Bronze medal, Junior National Bronze medal, Senior National Bronze medal(India National Camp) and North East Silver medal.
