Gangtok, June 22: In March 2020, the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship organized the event at Guwahati, Assam, called NERES 1.0, an entrepreneurship summit, sponsored by the North Eastern Council under the Government of India in association with Federation of Industries and Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER) which was created to introduce a platform for start-ups and entrepreneurs across the belt of North East India.

In tandem with NERES 1.0 was Sikkim’s premier incubation centre AIC-SMUTBI as a partner for the entire session of the event with even the awareness and preliminary selection rounds being held at the campus in Majhitar, Sikkim earlier this year.

30 of the best-pitched ideas from individuals who already have an existing business or plan to start one have been awarded 5 lakhs, without any equity or share dilution, to further their goals and contribute to the economy of the NE states along with raising the spirits of those who dream of creating a product or service that builds jobs and creates community engagement for the locals.

Six start-ups from Sikkim, Shoten Group, Tag-Along, Tastebuds, The Chakra’s Farm, Lagtsal and Voyage have won been awarded the same at NERES 1.0.

This news comes at a time when the global economy is at a downturn due to the COVID-19 crisis and serves to remind all aspiring entrepreneurs to never lose hope. Sikkim’s entrepreneurial future is at least for now, in the hands of bright, young minds who are working through a major historical event that threatens to bring all hope to a standstill – but they are here and they are winning.
