Gangtok is all geared up to celebrate Vishwakarma Puja on Tuesday, September 17. Various taxi drivers’ associations in and around Gangtok have started their preparations. The town is all prepping up with colourful pandals and lights.
Vishwakarma Puja is a day of worshipping Lord Vishwakarma, considered and believed by the Hindus as the principle architect of the universe.
The puja is primarily observed by people involved in the industrial field. Not only the elite engineering and architectural communities, but it is observed by the artisans, craftsmen, mechanics, smiths, welders, drivers and others who are involved in working with metals. Vehicles, machinery, working tools, computers, etc., are worshipped.
The driving community in Sikkim, specially celebrates this day with much fanfare. The vehicles are washed and decorated a day before and worshipped on the main day.
The pandals in many venues are designed with a particular theme. The music blaring from these pandals which are all lit up, draw huge number of pandal hoppers till night. Cultural programs in the evening come as an add-on to this festive celebration.
