From 0 cases to containment zones, Sikkim stands at 66 active cases
Gangtok, July 11: Sikkim reported 26 new COVID-19 cases, as informed by the Director-General of the State Health Department Dr Pempa Tshering Bhutia today in his daily Health Bulletin.
Among the fresh cases, 23 are from the GREF camp of Ringling, East Sikkim while three others are from State Institute of Capacity Building School in Karfectar, South Sikkim.
All the 23 new patients from GREF camp are asymptomatic and the three from South Sikkim are being shifted to New STNM hospital Sochyakgang near Gangtok.
Dr Bhutia further informed that Sikkim has become the first state to start Antigen testing at the state’s borders, the testing facility having recently been inaugurated by the Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang.
Meanwhile, the East District Collector has issued directive measures for the geographical containment due to the rapid increase of COVID19 positive cases. The order states that all vehicular and people’s movement should be stopped, except essential and emergency services.
All roads should be guarded by the police 24/7 and barricades set up to seal the containment zone. All the shops selling groceries, meat, bread and milk etc. should be closed in the containment zone. People’s movement is banned except for an emergency case.
The authorities have been directed to provide personal protective equipment (PPE) for the frontline workers as well as proper sanitation of all households, vehicles and settlement of the containment zone.
All the medical officers have been directed to engage ASHA and Anganwadi workers as per the necessity and contact tracing the connections of all the COVID-19 positive patients. These ASHA and Anganwadi workers should also be directed for daily house-to-house as active surveillance in containment zones.
It also has been directed that all worksites of 130 RCC, GREF shall be closed except the ones engaged in emergency and disaster works. All the labourers should be facility quarantined and after the consultation of sub-magistrate, the UT should be home quarantined.
Any gathering of more than five persons is strictly prohibited in the containment zone. This order will work as per the immediate effect and would be valid till July 19.
