Clash between Casual worker & Labour contractor of Swiss Garnier Genexiaa Pharmaceutical company: one arrest, one alleged of assault and molestation
After the clash between casual workers and labour contractor of Swiss Garnier Genexiaa Pharmaceutical company at Rhenock, two FIRs were lodged within 48 hours.
The Swiss Garnier Genexiaa Pharmaceutical company has remained in highlight for the past two days. On June 1when more than 200 casual workers demanded the closure of the workplace after one covid positive case was reported among the casual workers. Later that day a joint FIR was filed by the labour contractors claiming that they were assaulted by one of the workers with fists and blows.
According to the report of Kharrey, Lower Tarpin, Rhenock East Sikkim ”
“On 01/06/2021 at around 2100 hrs. joint FIR was received from Sukbir Bhujel, Bina Baraily & Bhanu Sharma, all labour contractors of Swiss Garnier Genexiaa (Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd.) located at Kharrey, Tarpin, Rhenock, E/Sikkim mentioning that around 1400 hrs. approx. 200 casual labourers who had gathered inside the company premises demanding closure of entire workplace due to COVID positive case in one of the workers, went violent and riotous and subsequently assaulted the complainant party with fists and blows causing simple injuries to all”.Devendra Sharma a casual worker, 41 years of age resident of Tarpin has been arrested by the police.
After the incident, on June 2 a lady casual worker also lodged an FIR against labour contractor Sukhbir Bhujel alleging him to have assaulted and molested her at the workplace.
Furthermore, the complainant also added that the incident happened after a squabble between the casual workers and labour contractors over the closure of their workplace
Further, the FIR was lodged at the Local police station on June 2. According to the reports of the local police “During the course of the investigation, the victim lady was medically examined at CHC Rhenock and her statement has been recorded U/S 161 Cr. P.C and further, the case is under investigation.
