Gangtok, 28 May: In a letter to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, former Minister Narendra Kumar Subba and current Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Maneybang-Dentam constituency penned his thoughts and suggestions on racial discrimination against the people from Northeast India.

Subba wrote that residents of mainland India have discriminated those who hail from the NE states, after the outbreak of COVID-19 and due to border tension between India and China.

He explains how Northeasterners are subjected to physical and verbal abuse, the latest reported incident being on the 24th of May 2020, when citizens of Sikkim travelling on a Special Train were pelted with stones by the locals.

In the letter, he gives the example of ill-treatment of Northeastern students by the TTE of a Shramik Express train travelling from Bengaluru to New Jalpaiguri, West Bengal on May 19th, 2020.

He suggests that a sensitization campaign be streamed on television and radio channels pan India and on Doordarshan too. Additionally, he recommends that the railway Police Force be instructed to take cognizance of these offences.
