CBSE Syllabi for 9-12 reduced by 30% in light of Covid-19 Pandemic
Union Human Resource Department (HRD) Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, announced that a 30% reduction in the syllabus for CBSE.
The reduction announced for the new academic year of 2020-21 was made on July 7, It was then followed by an official notification by CBSE. The announcement made was in light of the obvious decrease in classroom time of the academic session due to the pandemic and the lockdown that followed. The reduction was made with the suggestion of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) on the reduction of the syllabuses for Classes 9-12.
The CBSE syllabi were rationalized keeping in check that the educational outcome wasn’t hampered. This was so that the core concepts of students could be retained.
CBSE stated in its notification that the deleted portions of the CBSE syllabus should not be considered for internal assessments or the session’s end board exams. The notification also made it clear that teachers should ensure that the deleted portions are explained to the students so that they can use it to connect to other topics.
